About Romeo, MI - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Romeo, Michigan was first known as Indian Village, due to its having been established on the site of a former Chippewa settlement. The first non-Chippewa settlers began arriving in the early 1820s, and by 1822 the name was changed to Hoxie's Settlement after a local tavern keeper. In 1838 the village incorporated under its present name, chosen because it was “short, musical, classical and uncommon.” Before and during the Civil War, Romeo was a stop along the underground railroad, and some of its oldest homes still hide secret tunnels and shelters. Romeo was involved in the developing auto industry in the early 20th century, serving as home to the Detroit Auto Vehicle Company until 1908. Today this village of about 3,500 is known for offering a special postmark every Valentine's Day in partnership with Juliette, Georgia.

Romeo's winter weather can be very cold, with temperatures down into the teens during January and February, but the snow isn't too bad, only about 2 inches per month during the season. Summers are mild, as the mercury usually only climbs into the low 80s. Labor Day weekend brings an influx of visitors to the annual Michigan Peach Festival of Romeo, where this local crop takes center stage. Tillson Street, in the historic district, is known for its amazing Halloween decorations, as many of its Victorian homes transform into haunted manors.
